Round Four Report

Joost Luiten maintained his 100 per cent record as he cruised into the semi-finals of the Volvo World Match Play Championship at London Golf Club.

Luiten was the only player to win all three of his group matches en route to the quarter-finals, and the Dutchman was equally impressive in recording the largest winning margin of the week by thrashing Spain’s Pablo Larrazábal 6&5.

Luiten will face Mikko Ilonen in the last four following the Finn’s victory over Victor Dubuisson.

Dubuisson, who was unbeaten on his Ryder Cup debut last month with two-and-a-half points out of three, got back on level terms thanks to a superb eagle on the par five 15th, only to promptly bogey the next after a poor tee shot and Ilonen duly completed a hard-fought win.

Dubuisson’s Ryder Cup team-mate Henrik Stenson claimed a place in the semi-finals after seeing off his fellow Swede Jonas Blixt.

Stenson’s next opponent will be George Coetzee after the South African beat American Patrick Reed 2&1.

Coetzee, who saw off Reed on the 21st hole in the second round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in February, only got into the event on Monday as a replacement for the injured Thomas Bjørn.

But he made sure of his place in the semi-finals with his eighth birdie of the day on the 16th hole, and a par on the 17th.
