Carlos Gómez y Gómez, importante hombre de negocios de México, mostró su interés en patrocinar la carrera del tenista juvenil Lucas Gómez, número 33 del ranking ITF para menores de 18 años.

Gómez y Gómez, le dio vida al Abierto Mexicano, conjuntamente con el actual presidente de la FMT, Gastón Villegas. Así mismo financió la carrera de Alejandro Hernández Juliá en la década de los noventa.

Don Carlos Gómez y Gómez, durante su estancia en Wimbledon se dio tiempo para observar a Lucas y le extendió una mano amiga.
