La tenista sonorense Avril Marquina acepto ser reclutada por la academia Protenn en Arizona, en un proyecto que tiene el objetivo de desarrollar una tenista de origen latinoamericano para que compita en el circuito WTA.

El responsable de este proyecto es el entrenador de origen mexicano Alejandro Ramírez, quien ha brindado asesoría a tenistas profesionales de la WTA y ATP.

Avril llegó a las manos de Ramírez por recomendación de Juan Carlos «Cachoras» Arredondo.
